#SCUChallenge 31 - Medal/Pendant Design!

It's a special challenge today, as we want you to get your thinking caps on and come up with something that we can attach to our Sheffield Children's University awards lanyards!

As many of you will know, here at Sheffield CU, with all of your hard-earned certificates we award badges (have you received your first certificate and badge yet?). We also give you the option to buy lanyards to attach all your badges and keep them safe.

We are looking for your amazing ideas to create something like a medal or pendant that could be attached to the bottom of your lanyards - they’re looking a bit empty at the moment!

We really need your help and are asking if you could design something for us to have made and hopefully they’ll be available for award winners to attach to the bottom of their lanyards! We'll look at all the designs we receive and who knows…we might even choose your design!

You can download the full challenge here: https://bit.ly/SCUChallenge31

To claim your credits, please complete and return a Sheffield CU Home Learning Challenge Reflection Diary which can be found here: https://bit.ly/SheffCUReflectionDiary

Once you have completed all the challenges, email your reflection diary along with evidence of your completed activity to cu@sheffield.gov.uk (photos/videos etc.) and we'll award CU credits. We can't wait to see your ideas  - please send us a picture along with your reflection diary and feel free to share photos/videos on Facebook and Twitter! #SCUChallenges

#SCUChallenge 29 - Make your own comic book!

Today we challenge you to get creative and make your own comic book!

Comic books are a great way to tell a story. Unlike traditional books, comics tell the story mainly through pictures with a few words, rather than the other way round! Each section of the story is drawn in a box on the page - put all the boxes in the right order and you have a comic. You'll need to think about your story, characters, design and layout, and your audience too!

You can download the full challenge here: https://bit.ly/SCUChallenge29

To claim your credits, please complete and return a Sheffield CU Home Learning Challenge Reflection Diary which can be found here: https://bit.ly/SheffCUReflectionDiary

#SCUChallenge 27 - Being Kind and Thankful

It's really important that we always remember to be kind, but especially now. Being kind might mean something simple like saying 'thank you' or smiling as we pass someone in the street, or we can be kind by helping out with jobs around the house. Giving thanks is really important too - we need to let people know that we really appreciate what they do for us, what they give to us, how they help us, and also what they might have to give up to be able to help us too.

As well as being kind to other people, it’s really important that we are kind to ourselves too - remembering that it's OK to feel a bit down in the dumps, or to feel a little grumpy about things sometimes. Being kind to ourselves means we are able to realise when and why we might feel like this, reminding ourselves why we are special, and what we can do to cheer ourselves up a little.

So this weekend, our challenge is all about being kind and thankful. We want you think about how you could say thank you to the key workers who are keeping our country running at the moment, and also how you can be thankful at home, and kind to yourself too!

You can download the full challenge here: https://bit.ly/SCUChallenge27

#SCUChallenge 26 - Colour Sheffield!

It's Friday and today, we challenge you to colour Sheffield!

Colouring can be a great activity, especially if you're feeling bored, restless or even a bit down in the dumps. It’s a really rewarding thing that you can do in stages too - it doesn't all have to be done at once, so pick up your colouring pencils and do a bit now and then until it's all completed. Also, if you don't have a printer, don't worry! You can still take part in this activity, just copy and draw the design yourself! We can't wait to see your beautiful art work!

Important Announcement: Sheffield CU May Award Ceremonies

After recommendation from Sheffield Hallam University in light of current circumstances, we can now confirm that we are postponing the Sheffield CU award ceremonies which were due to take place on Wednesday 6th May 2020 at the campus in the city centre. These ceremonies were for children who attend Sheffield schools which ARE NOT subscribed to Sheffield CU and who collect CU credits using a Passport to Learning only. Invitations for these events would have been posted to families next week so we wanted to ensure we shared this information as soon as possible and confirm that unfortunately we are unable to issue any CU awards at this time. We will provide any further updates about future ceremonies and awards as and when we are able to do so.

Although our award ceremonies will not go ahead in May, we’re still busy working away in the background. Our team have all been working remotely since 17th March with limited access to our database, children’s CU credit records, emails, etc. As a result of this and as the libraries are closed, it also means that we cannot access our stock so unfortunately we cannot take online or phone orders for Passports to Learning at this time too. However, these can be purchased from Sheffield libraries once they are open again, so if you didn’t get a Passport to Learning before they closed, don’t panic! CU Credits earned by completing our CU Home Learning Challenges will be accredited to children whose families submit the activity evidence alongside a reflection sheet (which can be downloaded here: https://bit.ly/SheffCUReflectionDiary), detailing their child’s Passport to Learning number.

For now, we will continue to develop our wide range of CU Home Learning Challenges which are shared across our social media channels each day. We are LOVING seeing all your fantastic learning and fabulous creations so please do keep tagging us in your pictures – they really do keep us going!

As always, we sincerely appreciate your support and understanding at this time. Thank you and have a lovely weekend!
