As an extra extension activity - could you try and keep a growing diary and record the stages of the grass growing process? You could record things such as the first day you noticed the grass grow, or how tall you grew it until it needed a cut.

Sheffield CU Challenges - what to expect!

As schools have now closed to all pupils other than those of key workers, we know some of our school staff and families will be feeling more than a little overwhelmed at the moment. But we also know that the children and young people of our city still need to be educated and entertained as well as reassured too and we, like many others, are here to help as much as we can.

We think learning should be challenging, rewarding and most of all, FUN. We'll be sharing some fun learning activities you and your family can do very VERY soon, but first, we wanted to provide some guidance on these brand new 'CU challenges' so you know what to expect, and importantly, know how your child can collect their CU credits for taking part too!

Sheffield CU Home Learning Challenges

We'll be creating and sharing some of our own challenges, which will be suitable for a range of ages and abilities as well as subject areas, and will all be FUN! At this time, we really want you to really focus on the quality of the learning you take part in for each activity, rather than the number of hours, so each challenge/activity will be worth 1, 2 or 3 CU credits in total. We will let you know how many CU credits you can collect for each challenge when it becomes available.

Signposted activities (from Learning Destinations & other providers)

We'll be sharing links to loads of other brilliant activities - some from our wonderful Learning
Destinations, and some from other activity providers. We think they all deserve CU credits, so these
activities will be worth 1 CU credit each

Claiming your credits

Fill in a Home Learning Challenge Reflection Sheet so you can think about and see all the wonderful things you've learned. We'll be sharing a link to this very soon. You are free to do each activity as many times as you like, but can only claim CU credits once per challenge. We also need you to send some evidence for each of your completed challenges too - perhaps a photo, video, scanned copy of some writing, etc.

Email the reflection sheet and your evidence to cu@sheffield.gov.uk and we'll award your credits. Please wait until you've finished completing the challenges and send all your reflection sheets and evidence together!

Receive our updates!

Make sure you've signed up to our Parent/Carer mailing list to receive regular updates and activity information now and in the future. Email CU@sheffield.gov.uk to be added to the list

Home and downloadable CU learning activities - coming soon!

We know our schools will be working incredibly hard to make preparations and reassure you and your children after last night's Government announcement, and we want to provide as much help and support as we can too.

Sheffield Children’s University is all about encouraging participation in high quality learning beyond the classroom and we want to continue to support you to this during this uncertain time as much as possible, as well as enable our children and young people to continue to collect their CU credits too! We also firmly believe that learning can take place anywhere, and that includes at home and online too!

We are currently working on collating and sharing online and downloadable activities to do in and around your home, that have been developed locally by us and our brilliant Learning Destinations, but also by our fantastic fellow CU managers up and down the country too. We'll share this information over the coming days and weeks both here, and on Twitter (www.twitter.com/sheffieldcu) and our blog too (www.sheffieldcublogspot.com) so keep your eyes peeled! We will also be emailing it directly to our parent/carer mailing list so if you want to be added on to this, please email us on cu@sheffield.gov.uk.

The Sheffield CU team are currently working remotely for the foreseeable future which means that our landline is unfortunately out of action, but you can still contact us here and via email using the address above too! As always, we appreciate your continued support, patience and understanding during this time.

Finally, we just want to give A HUGE shout out to all our CU and Sheffield school staff too. We appreciate all your efforts to support the children and families of our city at this unprecedented time, especially those who are most vulnerable. We think you are amazing – thank you!

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: SHEFFIELD CU MARCH AWARD CEREMONIES

Unfortunately following recommendations from Sheffield Hallam University, the decision has been made to postpone the Sheffield CU award ceremonies which were due to take place on Tuesday 17th March and Wednesday 18th March 2020 on campus in the Stoddart Building and Hallam Hall.

Schools have been informed of this via email and telephone this morning and have been advised to share this message with those families and award winners who are affected directly as soon as possible. We also wanted to ensure that we shared this message directly with our families in the hopes of avoiding any unnecessary travel into the city centre over the next few days. Please do feel free to share and pass this message on others you know who may be affected.

To avoid any delay to our award winners, all awards have been created will be sent into school today to be presented and celebrated there. We send a HUGE congratulations to all our award winners for their commitment to learning in their own time, we are very proud of you and your achievements.

This is all the information we have at the moment and we will provide any further updates about future events and ceremonies as and when it’s available. As always, we sincerely appreciate your help and understanding at this time. Thank you!
