'I say Sheffield...you say BLAST OFF!'

Sheffield Children’s University and Space Connections brought hundreds of young scientists from 21 different Sheffield schools to the Don Valley Stadium for a day of rocket building, launching, competitions and challenges.
Testing air compressed rockets

Building commences...
Six weeks of science club activities provided the foundation for teams of primary and secondary school students to design their own water-powered pop bottle rockets which were launched in the centre of the stadium in a race to see which could travel the furthest distance powered only by a hand-pump operated by children and young people.

Malin Bridge's Marvellous Rocketeers!

Throughout the day an exciting programme of activities co-ordinated by Space Connections included building air compressed rockets, delay timers and the nail-biting water rocket competition!

'I say Sheffield... you say BLAST OFF!'

Blast off!

Through Sheffield Children’s University we are encouraging children to invest their own time in learning about things that fascinate them’ said one teacher. ‘Days like this provide such a unique learning experience for all those who take part.’

Special thanks to Space Connections and all our schools for taking part.
